Welcome to Aviation Online. My name is Wayne Arbon and I hope you like my site.
I worked as a journalist from the late 1980s and have recently worked in state and federal politics, but I have wanted to fly since first seeing a light aircraft above my parents' farm in South Australia's Mallee when I was still a small boy. I grew up wanting to fly fast jets for the RAAF but, after two years of physics which I hated, I found that I could not join the air force as I suffer from asthma. In 1996 I started flying lessons in Warrnambool, Victoria, but only flew about 10 hours because my young family needed first use of our finances. I honestly thought that I would never fly again. A decade later, a flight to Canberra in October 2006 for work reignited my passion for flying and I realised that it was literally "now or never". So I followed by dream and it has been even more special than I had imagined. My wife and three young daughters love to fly so it has turned into a family activity. Aviation Online is a community resource borne, ironically, out of frustration because of the difficulty I had finding information when I was learning to fly. It took so long to find anything - I went to one website to find a flight training school, another one to get a headset, another one to find a medical examiner and so on. I later found it had been just as frustrating for other pilots in other states as well. I thought, "It would be great to be able to access everything at one site", so Aviation Online was born. I want you to be able to access all the information you need from Aviation Online. We have a free forum, classified ads, an aviation business directory, information on learning to fly and various aircraft and helicopters, my blog, news, letters, features and articles, a newsletter and FAQ. We are always adding information and features, so check back often.
However, I need your help as there is so much about flying which I don't know. Please help me and your fellow pilots by sharing your expertise, experiences and wisdom through the forum and submitted articles.Aviation Online will always be free for the aviation community but there are costs to cover. Our classified ads and the aviation directory are a very cheap way of advertising your product or service. If you're selling a plane worth $150,000 or flying lessons at $250 an hour, spending $10 to add a photo to your advertisement or $25 a month to advertise your business in our aviation directory is a small and wise investment. Bookmark us, link to us, email to your friends. Welcome and fly safe.
